At my nephew Evan Bookstaff’s funeral (can’t believe I’m writing that!) everyone was given
bracelets to wear with the message “Be Positive. Time is Precious.” Such an important mantra, and embodies Evan’s wishes to empower his family and friends to get through this tragedy, support each other and live their best life! But how?
To me, “Be Positive” includes accepting what life throws you (yes, even lemons!), accepting that you may have a different path to accomplish your goals, and some goals may need to be modified. It’s ok to accept your limitations. We all have them. They are not all visible or obvious, but we all have limitations. It’s also not only ok but critical to have goals that you can’t possibly achieve. No one gets everything they want out of life, but getting anything starts with wanting it! So, want it all, but keep a positive heart when you don’t get it all. You weren’t supposed to!
Which brings me to “Time is Precious”. We all have a limited amount of time on this Earth. Evan sure showed us how to make the most of it! His was cut way too short, but he is still with us when we remember to make the most of our own time here. Aim for the loftiest of goals, try everything that you want to. Heeding his words is the best way to honor him—forever.
